The guinea pig originated from Central and South America, where they have lived for 35 to 40 million years. There are many colors as well as coat variations. Guinea pigs can be handled easily and they are highly unlikely to bite, which makes them excellent pets for small children . . A child should be at least 4 years old to keep a guinea pig as a pet. They can live up to 10 years.They have many different colors and hair styles.

Housing:A guinea pig can live in a cage with a floor space 16" x 32" . A 20 gallon long aquarium with a water bottle maybe easier to clean. Bedding should be 4"to 6' deep and can be most any material except cedar bedding. They like a housing box to sleep in.Water: A large water bottle cleaned once a day, should be used instead of a water bowl. Food; The basic food should be a good guinea pig mix.They like fresh greens and good quality hay. A chew stick is highly recommended . They can use a vitamin C additive in their diet.Temperature;Guinea pigs do well at room temperatures. Lighting; No special lighting required
