VEILED CHAMELEON

Top picture adult male -- Bottom picture adult female. Range: Western Yemen and Southern Saudi Arabia.Appearance: Males have blue spots and Turquoise belly. Females are usually green with yellow and blue spots . Size: Can reach 13" when a year old ,can reach 22 " when mature. Temperament : Most chameleons don't like to be held, they will stress if held a lot. Females generally are less aggressive. Can be Trained to eat out of your hand. Males are territorial and aggressive when breeding. Hardiness: very hardy when maintained correctly. Sexing: Males have an enlarged cranial casque 4.5 ",spurs on back legs. Food:When young 10 to 20 crickets per day. Calcium supplement recommended.Housing : A 10 gallon tank for juveniles ,29 -55 gal for adults. Live plants and a easy to clean substrate. A full screen top Water: Provide a small shallow dish -but most water intake is from drinking off leaves , a heavy misting every day is a must for young Chameleons.

A drip system is okay for adults.Temperature: Day -86f night 70 75f. Lighting:A full spectrum UVA and UVB lighting is recommended. Heat lamps also to bring heat up., should be on 12-14 hours a day -Lights off at night Heating: Heat lamp.

Veiled Chameleons

Breeding:Females can be receptive to males from 3.5 to 5 months old .Females lay eggs every 90 to 120 days .Clutch size from 27 to 80 eggs depending on size and age. Females can lay two clutches without re breeding. At oviposition, a female will dig a tunnel at a 45-to - 50 degree angle, when completed she will back into the tunnel and lay her eggs.She then covers the tunnel. Suggest using moistened sand 4" to 6" in depth.
