Well, Spring has finally arrived! The beginning of Spring brought us beautiful weather that made riding outside a long awaited treat. After spending the majority of the Winter months riding in our indoor arena, the ability to ride outside under the warm sun elated all of us. The horses spent most of their time basking in the sun and eating the fresh grass that had found its way out of the shadow of Winter. Birds were chirping and the sweet smell of Spring flowers started to fill the air, but as is true with every Colorado Spring, the weather can change on a dime, and it did just that.
We are now in the last week of April, and May is right around the corner. Usually, we can look forward to more days of 70 degree or higher temperatures, cool breezes, and sprouting leaves. However, we have now become subjects to Mother Nature's interesting sense of humor, and have been receiving rain and now snow showers! Colorado always keeps you on your toes, and we at The Four Winds have learned to dance along with its sudden changes. This means bringing extra clothes for layering, riding out side for as long as we can, and when the grey clouds and rain come rolling in, we know it's time to head to the indoor. Thank goodness for our indoor!
Even though we are always at the mercy of Mother Nature this time of year, that doesn't stop us from preparing for our upcoming shows! In March, our Head Trainer Linnea and her Assistant Trainer Lindsay, drove all the way out to California to show at HITS Thermal with a handful of our students and boarders. This was the first time many of the students had been to and showed at an elite "A" rated show! It was also a first for some of our horses as well. By the end of the week, everyone (both humans and horses) came back with newly found knowledge and lasting memories. Even though everyone was exhausted from a week of showing and traveling, it was back to business as usual. We have already selected many more local CHJA shows and local "A" shows we will be attending this May through the end of the year. In June, our trainers will be heading to Texas for the Blue Ribbon Festival and will be taking more students and boarders. On July 16th and 17th, August 20th and 21st, and October 15th and 16th, we will be hosting our own CHJA shows here at the facility. Each show always turns into a family affair as the entire Throckmorton family (the owners of The Four Winds since 1975) come together from near and far to run each show. We will continue to keep everyone posted on shows we will be attending or hosting, as well as happenings around the barn. Stay tuned for more!
