Our Philosophy
Our team of professionals works together in a cooperative environment to support our riders and horses. While each of our individual backgrounds is different, we agree on the core concepts that define our program. We bring a European, dressage-based background to traditional American forward seat riding, creating versatile riders with the ability to ride many types of horses in the hunter, jumper, or equitation rings. We educate horses and riders with an emphasis on flatwork, communication, and better basics, building a solid foundation for success over bigger jumps. Most importantly, no matter the level of horse or rider, we approach training with positivity and a growth mindset, creating an empowering environment for riders to learn. Each trainer incorporates their own unique experiences, language, and priorities to their training in a way that both complements and brings variety to our program as a whole.

Linnea Throckmorton - Head Trainer
A third generation horseman, Linnea has dedicated herself towards being an equine professional since she could walk. She competed throughout the country as a junior, and spent time training in Germany before returning to teach and train at the Four Winds in 2010. In her 15 years of teaching, Linnea has developed a program as much focused on a quality and competitive performance program, as it is on community building.
Fueled by a desire to keep horses as accessible to the people who love them as possible, she believes in the importance of having a strong school program, as well as personally restarting off the track thoroughbreds (OTTBs) as part of her sales program. She’s finished several young horses from their first moments under saddle through competing at the National Grand Prix level, and has helped students achieve similar accomplishments in their riding career. She feels passionately about encouraging students to be invested in their own success and frequent conversations about goal setting is an integral part of her instruction. Additionally, the farm frequently hosts clinicians from various backgrounds for accessible continuing education opportunities, and hosts upwards of 5 state and regionally recognized horse shows per season.
Outside of time in the saddle, Linnea has served as a board member of the Colorado Hunter Jumper Association for over eight years, helping maintain the horse community through program-building opportunities, and has served as a volunteer in various capacities for the United States Olympic Equestrian Team. -

Teegan Chism - Riding Instructor, Exercise Rider
Teegan coaches our students within the school program. Originally hailing from California, she joined us in 2020 when she went to CSU to pursue an undergrad in Equine Science. With 18 years of riding experience, she joined our team more formally in 2021 to teach and ride. Her horsemanship is unparalleled - she loves the horses because they’re honest, sensitive, and always teach you something new about patience, communication, and trust. Regarding her instruction style - with a heavy equitation background, Teegan appreciates the foundation of good form. Her goal is to keep her students continuing to understand each horse as an individual and “obviously jump big sticks”. Her biggest fulfillment in teaching comes from that “lightbulb moment” when a rider connects with their horse, and she hopes that confidence, patience, and a love for learning. Outside of horses, Teegan wants to continue growing her career in animal health and is currently completing her course to be a certified veterinary technician. Fun fact: she has two guinea pigs named Tweedledee and Tweedledoo, and they absolutely think they run the house.

Mackenzie Dowdy
Riding Instructor
Mackenzie coaches students within the school program. She has ridden with Linnea since 2015 and brings a lot of our classical approach to her teaching. Whenever we have clinicians in, she is one of the first to want to continue to further her education. She also spends much of her time researching different ways to help her students increase their fitness out of the saddle and can recommend great programs that she’s personally tried. She is an incredibly charismatic individual, who is certain to make you feel welcome and confident in your rides.

Dana Knudson
Communications Manager
Dana has a professional background in social work and has extensive experience in overseeing programs that have multiple moving pieces, while maintaining a focus on customer service and managing provider and client expectations. In addition to taking over some administrative duties and internal systems management, we are hoping that she will serve as a communication bridge between clients and barn/lesson management regarding general services being offered, and can bring a solutions-focused perspective to potential issues that may arise within the current structure of barn operations. During her time at the barn, she will be doing intentional check-ins with clients to make sure everyone is satisfied with how things are going, and should also be looked to as a "liaison of knowledge” - if you have a question, comments, or concerns ask her! She will either give you the answer, help you find the answer, or point you in the direction of someone who has the answer.

Jasmine Throckmorton
Since childhood, Jasmine has been involved in the events and activity of the barn. As an adult, she’s found her stride in barn management. She enjoys focusing on the horse’s care, developing solid relationships with vendors, facilitating educational opportunities for herself and boarders, and organizing the many competitions hosted at the Four Winds. If you have a problem, she prides herself on finding the right solution!

Charles Throckmorton
Charles was a successful Grand Prix and Derby rider from 1980 through the early 2000’s before he put up his riding hat and became a full time licensed USEF “R” Course designer and competition manager. When he is home, he continues to help with lessons and training and offers in house clinics. You can find him most readily being our resident handyman and on-the-ground horseman
Charles is the man who started Four Winds in its entirety and we owe him our eternal gratitude for his wisdom, patience and love of horses.
